I’m going to make two suggestions as to why you might want to click on the donation button and contribute some of your hard-earned cash.
The first is that it will help pay for site itself, its physical existence. There are some relatively small ongoing costs, like paying the host, domain registration and ISP charges that it would be nice to cover, and if you, as a user, want to help out with that, that’d be great. But there are also what I might, a bit too grandly, call development costs. The recent upgrade of the site–the new design, the more user-friendly commenting and overall layout–was done by a designer and technician who, quite rightly, charged for their services. Your donation would help off-set the money I have already paid for that work.
So that’s one reason to make a donation: to help me pay for costs of running and developing the site (and yes, there are more upgrades and developments in the works).
The second reason to consider making a donation is simply because you get some value out of the site itself. The nearest equivalent I can think of is dropping a few bucks in a busker’s hat. You do it because you like what you hear as you pass by or maybe linger for a few minutes.
So if you like the writing here at Surfdom and sometimes find useful information or interesting commentary; if you get a bit of laugh out of some of the posts or find the site a convenient way of keeping track of key social and political debates; if you find it worth your while to check in every day or every week to see what’s going on and maybe find some links to other interesting material; in short, if Surfdom is part of your regular reading schedule and you would like to acknowledge that by making a donation, then click the button below.

Sorry!Just cannot do it physically,a torment for me generally for those I would most of the time support,if anything I apply my mind to that could end up as a donation,you have my permission,without limitations,and consider this a legally binding acceptance without any future restraint on such by me.All this crap about a skilled workforce when any number of times in my adult life I have seen my written words turn into highly valued and value added experiences for others.And to this very day,it will continue till tomorrow.There is an inbuilt contempt that can only be seen thoroughly in our system when asking for some recognition runs into a stoney non compliant response of a very long time period.You are probably facing something similar.
