Greg Hunt

Can’t imagine why the Libs are out of power everywhere in the country will talent and analysis like this available on their Federal frontbench:

The federal Opposition has compared water minister Penny Wong to Saddam Hussein over her handling of the crisis in the Murray Darling Basin.

Opposition water spokesman Greg Hunt made the comment in relation to the unfolding ecological crisis in South Australia’s wetlands and lower lakes, which are at the mouth of the ailing river system.

“Penny Wong and Prime Minister (Kevin) Rudd are set to join Saddam Hussein and the Ba’athists of Baghdad as only the second government in the world to have presided over the destruction of a RAMSAR-listed wetland,” he told ABC television.

Mr Hunt accused the Australian Government of “an act of monumental environmental vandalism without precedent in Australian history”.

Such class and acumen.

Ramsar is a town in Iran, NOT an acronym. And sadly, plenty of listed wetlands have been destroyed already.

    Tool.

With respect Penny and her party have had less than12 months to turn around monumental neglect from the Libs. The Libs answer was, just put the policy out there, don’t bother costing it, buy the water off their National Party mates at any price, and maybe, just maybe, there might be a flow in the wetlands. Greg Hunt needs to remember which Federal party neglected these wetlands and theMurray River as a whole. His party was the biggest environment vandals in the history of federation and he comes with this crap. Penny and Kevin are at least haveing a go. We all understand that more needs to be done, but we need to tread carefully, there are some real farmers on the river who need water to survive. Conservation of water and a flow in the Muarray is the answer, not sensationalist crap from an idiot who has doesn’t know Iran from Iraq. With these credentials Greg Hunt should have been George Dubbyas minister for defence.

His parents called him Greg Hunt? No wonder he’s aggro about the world. Even if you liked the guy, it would take the voice control of an actor not to say Greg Cunt.

  4. Evan Says:

And this coming from the Party that presided over $300 million in kickbacks to Saddam himself.

Where the f**k do these people come from?

  5. Flying Porkers Says:

Yes, the mighty Murray was veritably gushing like Niagra Falls for four billion years right up until last November when the current gov’t attained power, then it suddenly choked and died solely due to Rudd/Wong neglect.

The previous gov’t was religiously dedicated to all things environmental, as we saw them feverishly trampling on people in order to rush to Kyoto and gleefully sign on the dotted line. John Howard was often in tears over our planet which is dying at an alarming rate.

I know the answer: vote the Libs back in tomorrow and the Murray will gush forth once again, pink pigs gleefully flying overhead in celebration.

Hi Tim. Just popped in–out of the blue–to see what my old sparring partner Ken has been up to, and to say Hi if he was around. Seriously!

I’m a bit surprised to find this post though. Not surprised with the content at all, but surprised that you apparently don’t think it’s suitable for blogocracy. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but just how much do you hold back over there? I’m pretty sure you would have given it a run say 12 months ago. Wouldn’t you?

  7. Tim Says:

Actually, I did mention it over there. Reading too much into it? Um, yeah…

  8. Ken L Says:

‘Old sparring partner’? Don’t flatter yourself dude.

Re #6, well I suppose it’s an open comment area, still we have been pest free for quite a while. Sort of like lice, just when you think…

  10. mars Says:

I like outrage. Seriously. I really do. There’s not enough passion in Australian politics these days. Definitely not enough indignation!

Good on ya Greg!!! Mate. It’s grouse to see someone making a noise about something they feel strongly about. You ripper. Environment? Shit yeah!

BTW. Isn’t it time we added the “Iraq corollary” to Godwin’s Law? Just for the wingnut’s sake?

I agree with Mars (sorry, mars), there isn’t enough strong language since Lord Downer minced off to Cyprus. I think it’s been a whole week since I heard anyone appalled or disgusted, or found something disgraceful, atrocious or even outrageous. So if Mike Hunt wants to invoke Saddam (he’s too young to remember Hitler) I say good on him.

  13. mars Says:

You know what makes me livid?

    Cheap, unprincipled Saddam/Hitler analogies

Worst of Perth, there’s a largish used car dealer in Brisbane who proudly calls his business Mike Hunt Motors. You’d think he’d call himself Michael, wouldn’t you? I don’t know if he donates to the, ahem, Liberal National Party’s election coffers. If so, the details need to be read aloud on radio news.

  17. Tobias Ziegler Says:

It’s good to see that the Liberal Party’s best and brightest are making sure they pick up their talking points from Piers Akerman:

The former Soviet Union killed the Aral Sea, the fourth largest inland body of water; Saddam Hussein destroyed the marshes at the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates, the largest wetlands ecosystem in the Middle East - and the ALP soon may have to take ultimate responsibility for killing the Murray-Darling, Australia’s largest river system.

  18. Lang Mack Says:

See, us lefty’s knew the Rudster would raise us to world level,in ten months we’ve stuffed the mighty Murray/Darling, given another ten months the Great Barrier Reef will be rooted, Tassie into rolling green grasslands, the Opera House a needle exchange center,Qld. will be annexed to the N.T,all kids will live in poverty, and JPK will join the Nationals. That’s only a start.

  19. mars Says:

    Excellent observation, LM

And a few weeks ago we copped the title for being the most OBESE nation on earth!

Gosh, our Kevin has been very busy these past few months. Hasn’t he?

    Oi Oi Oi

  20. jane Says:

Yeah and they reckon Kev08 has been sitting on his hands doing bugger all since the election!

  21. Jovial Monk Says:

I think Penny wong is right: there is NOT enough water in the MD Basin to fill the lakes and watch them evaporate next summer.

  22. Lang Mack Says:

#21, working on the principle that it’s not going to rain in the future?. ( I can give you an up to date forecast of yesterdays weather.)
