One of these men is a “terrorist”.
All three like to show off with guns, but that’s where the similarities end. Only one of them has his gun fetish presented as proof positive of alleged “treason”.
One started an illegal war that has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians that the same war was supposed to save from […]

AWB scandal, Howard govt, Labor politics - 110 Comments » - Posted on December, 1 at 11:54 am
A friend sent me this article by email this morning. He transcribed it tortuously with his two-fingered typing technique.
I wish I’d written it myself. And I wish I could draw as well as Spooner has in the cartoon accompanying the article (and reproduced here).
And I wish a lot of others had written similar, before it was […]

Alexander Downer said today he was, shocked, shocked to discover there was corruption surrounding Australian wheat sales to Iraq before the war.
“They (the AWB) were deceiving us, they were deceiving the UN. I was shocked. It would have been a different thing if we had let them get away with it and refused to set up […]

When writing a post here, Tim’s editing engine asks the writer to check a category box. The one I’ve clicked is “AWB Scandal”, but I fear now that lies, deceit, trading with the enemy and total, shameless, arrogant incompetence are no longer a “scandal”. They are, according to our Prime Minister, World’s Best Practice. So […]

Thanks to Gandhi in comments on another thread, we have this, shall we say, illuminating article in the SMH.
Not that anyone really believed Howard when he said he hadn’t made up his mind on war in Iraq - until he did - but isn’t it nice to know that Howard’s Iraq invasion denials, something the […]

If I were Kim Beazley, I’d be on a plane to meet with new House Speaker in the US, Nancy Pelosi. Especially given that Mr Howard is currently in Hanoi, of all places, meeting with Mr Bush. Would make for a nice study in contrasts, past-and-future and all that. Still, Kim came […]

Surely there is going to be some pressure on the government, after all their public boasting about transparency, for them to release the secret section of the Cole report? (I know, I know, but someone as to play the ingenue in this democracy):
THE Howard Government and its officials will narrowly escape punishment for the […]

You Can’t ‘Contain’ Saddam
Cold War doctrine doesn’t apply in the age of terror.
Opinion Journal
BY JOHN HOWARD
Wednesday, February 26, 2003 12:01 a.m. EST
Not one person wants war. We all abhor it. Those who marched a week ago in the cities of the world do not have a mortgage on detestation of military conflict or of […]

Protesters excercising their democractic rights were denounced as being in league with Saddam Hussein, while mates of the prime minister’s actually in league with Saddam Hussein (allegedly, based on evidence at the Cole Inquiry) were given kid-glove treatment and extended the prime minister’s every trust.
How’s that judgement working out for you, prime minister?
PM denounces protesters […]
