Motives stripped naked in the blogosphere

From the moment she stepped into the limelight of the US presidential campaign, I’ve put shit on Sarah Palin. Not only here, but in private conversations.

In my pride and arrogance, I pretended that my scorn was based on evidence and logic. I kidded myself that I had made an intellectual case for Sarah Palin being an opportunistic, unprincipled, ignorant airhead who was 100 times the ‘celebrity candidate’ that Barack Obama ever was.

I’m shamed to confess that some dude called Kevin Burke has seen right through my pathetic self-deception:

Some of the very personal and often uncharitable criticism of vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin and her family may have a relationship to the collective grief, shame, and guilt from personal involvement in the abortion of an unborn child.

Now I cannot actually remember my involvement in the abortion of an unborn child - or indeed of a born child, if it comes to that - but no doubt this is because I have repressed my memories. Now the storm of emotions unleashed by that vile hideous act has broken out in my psyche in the form of scurrilous unfounded criticism of the most inspiring candidate for the presidency since Theodore Roosevelt.

Christ these wingnuts are a bunch of deranged lunatics.

    Really?

    Well I’m stunned!

I thought the answer was always: “because they hate America”

  2. Lyn Says:

I went straight past an abortion clinic once without bombing it. Does that count?

  3. Ken L Says:

Yes Lyn, I think your suppressed feelings of guilt at the wasted opportunity are poisoning your soul.

    As a latte-sipping, chardonnay-socialist, bleeding-heart, tree-hugging, tofu-loving, flag-burning, chattering-class do-gooder… wait… um… where was I going with that?

  5. Lyn Says:

Straight to hell Mars, that’s where you’re going. If you get there before me, save me a seat at the bar.

Sigh. Sometimes the so called LEFT are as callous and insane as the loopy RIGHT. I’ve seen far too many women get drunk - on booze, a man, or both…get pregnant…then get the REGRETS…& go to a clinic to kill a child in their womb in order to make their life easier. Whether you send troops to bomb the bejesus out of a town for profits, or abort in the name of convenience, it’s still killing…w/ selfish motives.

I don’t agree w/ Palin’s approach to the abortion issue, there exist specific cases where the Mother’s health must be placed as a top priority…& the viability of the fetus, incest etc. Palin’s views are too strict. And her excitement over the use of guns & killing defenceless animals is deplorable. But I do think there are some truisms in that Kevin Burke quote. COLLECTIVE GUILT is real. And PROPAGANDA & HIVE MIND thinking exists across the political spectrum.

I might add, when I watch those political animals, who act like non-stop grinning androids on cable TV, talking about protecting children’s lives I don’t believe a word of it. They are EMPTY…they are PROFITEERS & ENABLERS OF PROFITEERS who will use any issue to wedge, gain, win…and regardless of the barrels of BS that they call taking the “moral high ground” that flows from their deceitful mouths, little CHANGES…in one way or another THE KILLING goes on. And the majority of THE PEOPLE turn away. Or JUSTIFY.

And now the economy is turning down, more women will feel justified to kill their babies. And men will urge them to do so.

I condemn most of US for being fckn’ lazy, unimaginative, spoilt & lacking in true compassion. We get the leadership we deserve.
