The modest member for Wentworth

The new leader of the opposition is ‘humble’.
Oh BTW from earlier:
Costello backs Nelson’s leadership
Way to go out of public life Pete … a loser ’til the end.

I also enjoyed the attempt to paint himself an underprivileged childhood, but at least the man has an air of sanity and competence about him.

If he thinks the party will be unified as he put it, he’s got to be kidding. Costello is doing everything possible to undermine the party, Lord Nelson has taken his bat and ball and gone home to plan his next battle and Minchin has a long memory, a lot of grubby friends in high places and he backed Nelson. This and the fact that those that didn’t like Nelson didn’t like his leadership direction but the majority of those that don’t like Turdball dislike him with a passion. This of course is a recipe for unity…how.
I see Turdball as a JWH hardliner, a go it alone and you follow or not, I don’t really care. He’s a maverick, and he doesn’t engender any sort of unity at all, in fact he is an individualist and this will count against him when under pressure. I don’t think the party can afford another devisive leader.

In fairness to Mr Turnbull, he did come from a lowly background and worked his way up. He was not born with a silver spoon up his arse.
But ‘humble’ he ain’t. Though, in fairness, almost no senior political figure ever is.
Just discovered something interesting, Turnbull has no Wikipedia entry. Watch that space.

Oh, and I much prefer him to Nelson, Costello, Abbott, etc. Though whether his party (specifically, the hard right) will genuinely support him remains to be seen. I can feel a white anting coming on.

In some ways his position is similar to Rudd’s - a likeable personality who may prove electorally popular but some of whose core beliefs are anathema to the party’s faithful. If he can win back some of the true liberals then Labor is in trouble, especially if the masses blame Labor for the pending economic tsunami (thanks Tip for getting that one right).

I cannot believe the hard times either Rudd says he came from or Turnbull. They have simply got it wrong. And Nelson was pressing for at least 30 new dollars to old age pensioners, and now Rudd is saying he is looking forward to working with him, Turnbull, on the Republic stuff.Which is going to be used as a convenient tool to stop exposing these two parties going on as they have. They both defy their reasoning by what they represent today if they came from humble beginnings.!?And personally I would rather this stuff not exceed to the top, when people of working class origin, new who the poor families were around them, and get penalised even today if,they find Rudd a sort of class bigot. And small business knew who were the badly off were, and at one time drifted towards Liberals, seeing they were always owed money.. the small businesses. What is then this Turnbull then!?His whole career and jobs are the worship of money, rather than dealing with it as as a power that can make or break people in whatever way they live their lives or tasks they take on.

See comment 10 Seeker. Was plenty of info when I visited this morning…:)
Says alot about the way he’d govern I reckon. Freedom of speech bites the dust so Malcolm can manufacture himself a new suit.

Ummmm Turnbull’s had a Wikipedia entry since September 2003.
September 16th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Well that’s interesting. When I checked earlier on today there was no article there (and, yes, I did check I had the right spelling). Maybe there was a brief glitch on Wikipedia.

Probably been taken down for extensive rewriting and massaging by his parliamentary office. Isn’t that what they do all day, tweak Wikipedia entries for their boss.

There still is, and will be, a sizeable “Anyone But Turnbull” camp. The change in the vote was basically a handful of people who decided Nelson wasn’t cutting it. I can’t see people like Minchin suddenly becoming Malcolm fans.

Seeker, regarding Malcolm, I hardly call growing up in Vaucluse and this:
“He spent his first three years of school at Vaucluse Public School. He continued his primary education at Sydney Grammar Prep, St Ives. He then went to Sydney Grammar School’s Senior school at College Street in Sydney.” (courtesy Wikipedia)
A “lowly” background. Sounds like above average privelage to me. Granted, he has made the most of his talents, but he still comes from a different strata to society than most of us and he should stop trying to pretend otherwise - it just looks dicky.

BigRuss - yessss. Nick Minchin, Labors secret weapon inside the Coalition!
So secret even he doesnt know…

I hear The modest member for Wentworth is offering up his Merchant Bank & lawyer talents to Kevin Rudd in order to help solve the economic problems created by his side of politics.
My, what a bi-partisan bridge builder he is. Can we assume that such “reaching out” will also entail passing bills in order for government to claim back some of the pork handed out to the rich by the government Turnbull proudly served with?
I noticed he sat prostrate most of the time in parliament yesterday, like some smug, rich man’s barrister, waiting for his propaganda machine to do the work for him…
And didn’t News Ltd…& SKY NEWS & some in the ABC…work overtime selling his wares & spinning his tale?
I watch parliamentary proceedings carefully…& much of what is reported bares little resemblance to what I observe. It’s been this way since 2000/2001.
Not surprising really…Murdoch & his billionaire pals & associates have monopolised the media, sold a pig of a war to the sleeping public (now waking up), helped talk up bogus businesses & loans & in turn assisted the manitou of debt…& then pulled the carpet out from under the very people they urged to go into debt & buy crap shares & overly-expensive houses…
A now, just as the LIGHT begins to shine into their DARKNESS by way of Australia’s Federal Labor win…& Obama’s resurgence…they are desperate to promote the two men who could help bring back the storm clouds & darkness that hides the SINS & DECEIT of the Corporate aristocracy.
Malcolm Turnbull & John McCain.
Whilst Joe Biden is criticised for calling on THE RICH who benefitted from tax cuts, rorts & cheap goods, to stand up and do their “patriotic duty” during a time when workers are doin’ it tough…& the young soldiers, often from small towns, have given their all for a bogus war…a war that saw a select few RICH types profit like cockroaches inside a fast food garbage bin.
Expect SELL SELL SPIN SPIN from any News Ltd/News Corp organ & TV show…even the Fox movies…they have a lot to lose. They’ll provide you w/ a few tricky dick “Lefty cum Centrist” moments…O’Reilly luvs to pretend he’s an independent (when it is said he was a card carrying Republican until he began the show)…but anyone who KNOWS this lot KNOWS they promoted war, bigotry, unsustainable tax cuts for the rich, unjustified attacks on anti-warists, educators & left-wing pollies…the list goes on.
They are the MANIPULATORS. The real ELITE enablers. The OTHER ELITE.
I also noticed in parliament that Turnbull was quite content to let his weasels snarl all around him…perhaps it feeds his ego, leader of the pack & such…
Lest we forget, our Republican hero Turnbull (NOT) defended Kerry “tax avoiding” Packer over the “Goanna” allegations made by the Costigan Commission General in the early 80s in his role as Counsel and Secretary for Australian Consolidated Press Holdings Group.
This is a guy who has spent his life concerned about the poor…the poor wealthy buggers who are held to account for their lies, tax avoidance schemes, hatred of Socialists & Unionists…but don’t count on loyalty…from what I hear he’s merciless when it comes to those who cross him or backstab or deign to criticise. Ask the Packer family.
The well paid SKY NEWS pack is currently attacking Rudd on his trip overseas & spinning Turnbull into orbit. I bet he loves looking down on the rest of us…LORDing it up.

Did you see Fox’s Spears try to get one over on Gillard ref “Work Choices” at the Press Club piss up?
The thrust of his question to Gillard backed fired on him, and he sat back in his seat like a petulant school kid, who had just been sprung putting the girl sitting in front of him pigtails in the ink well.
The bias shown by this media outlet is palpable, I wouldn’t mind but they try to hide it under a veil of so called professionalism.
It makes me want to puke.
