Does Kevin love me after all?

Uncategorized - - Posted on June, 29 at 6:16 pm by Ken L

All that crap about ‘working families’ really started to grate after a while … well about last August, to be honest. Kevin’s advisers must have finally convinced him that he was not only being unnecessarily exclusive but also starting to alienate large slabs of the population.

So he’s making an effort to clutch more of us to his bosom (my emphasis):

UHLMANN: Were working families better off this time last year?

PM: Well, we’ve had a huge increases in petrol. We’ve had significant increases in the cost of groceries and, of course, the wash through effect still of what’s been 12 interest rate rises in a row over many years and that means therefore that there are huge new pressures on working families.

What we’ve tried to do with the Budget is to provide some help on the way through. Each family’s circumstances are going to be different. But we’ve said we would try to help, and that’s why we have brought in the tax measures and the other measures.

UHLMANN: Well, when you introduce an emissions trading system will the costs of living rise higher still?

PM: What we’ve said, as Mr Howard said last year, is that if you act on climate change and the emissions trading system then obviously there’s a flow through consequence for the cost of petrol and the cost of energy. We understand that.

What we will be doing is also providing support for working families, working Australians, pensioners and carers to deal with any additional cost to them.

And also, through the system, we’ll also be providing support for business to adjust.

Tough luck if you’re unemployed or a self-funded retiree - you’re on your own, buddy.

Still, old habits die hard and later in the interview he reverted to the old mantra:

PM: We believe we’re going to approach this in a clear and responsible way, which is why we’re putting out a green paper on this matter later in July.

On the question of the costs to be incurred by families on the way through, we will be providing compensation for those worst affected.

We will also be providing support for families in general by one means or another.

As a working single man I still feel the cold winds of rejection crying.

As a single male pensioner, who works quite often to pay the rent forward, and, thinks I could run this country, because I am almost down-sized to nothing.I hope more males feel a contempt for the married man with grown up kids.Go on Piss Off!

  2. billie Says:

As an unemployed soon to be self-funded retiree I too feel irrelevant in this society. I thought we changed governments to
    manage our water resources better
build / manage public transport better not continue the ad-hoc trashing of arterial routes through our cities
stop propping up the religious education sector
have a vision of Australia’s economy as being something more than a large minesite and live meat exporter
    stop privatising public utilities

In my severe disappointment I am considering swinging back to the Liberals if Turnbull is the leader. The family swung to Labor to elect Gough but it might be time for the middle class elites to move on. Are the Greens worthy of consideration?

  3. Lyn Says:

As a member of a working family I’m feeling left out too. None of the kids are young enough for us to qualify for much in the way of working family sympathy and hand outs.

Damn those stinking other working families.

  4. nasking Says:

“In my severe disappointment I am considering swinging back to the Liberals if Turnbull is the leader.”

billie, in yer concern you’re unfortunately sounding like you’re feeding into the BS campaign to undermine Labor being put out there primarily by the Murdoch media. And other Corporate media beasts.

Rudd/Gillard will shift emphasis when they think the TIME is right.

WOLVES howling w/ forked tongue everywhere.

STAY AWAKE (some) PEOPLE. You’re in a stupor caused by PROPAGANDA…unrelenting PROPAGANDA.

Ken however, is probably trying to shift the mantra/emphasis, which is fair enuff.

  5. Lang Mack Says:

Nask; one thing that pissed me off was tonight on the 7.30 report when Tanner said ‘Look,we know that people are doing it tough out there ‘I found again that that patronizing duplicitous attitude that we thought may have been reduced , yeah well!.

Right mate, you’re in the boat and we are
swimming. And we supplied and pay for the upkeep of the bloody boat. And you were asked aboard by us. Don’t push it you lot,a mutiny is not a new novelty, enjoy your tax payer funded perks, and the so called power, only take a little % of that crap, and good bye white tax payer driver supplied car. ( How much did you pay for fuel today,Lindsay?, Oh, thought so.)

  6. Lang Mack Says:

Ken, it’s not the ‘cold winds of rejection’ just means you have to supply the wood for the fire, and don’t let it go out.

  7. nasking Says:

“one thing that pissed me off was tonight on the 7.30 report when Tanner said…”

Lindsay Tanner means it LM. He is a serious individual. The tax cuts will help. So will the education, health & other programmes coming…positive changes happening…but it’s a HUGE job that takes courage…& perserverance.

…but many in the media, thinking of their own jobs, privileges & driven by MASTERS will tend to tell YOU otherwise.

Don’t forget about the economic sabotage that has gone on by the Howard government, certain companies/CEOs & their enablers. Not to mention the escalating WAR oil prices…& the tax cuts for the rich from the Busheviks & Howeirdians that has led to sneaky speculation & investments…driving prices up.

Labor has much of the media against them. It’s a tough road…a journey against so many FORCES of HATE & beguiling strategies.

But these forces of GREED that push crazily for an ONGOING WAR for PROFITS, the so called Right side of politics (my Grandfather was Right…he’d have detested these tactics by the Coalition here & Neo-Cons/Neo-Libs elsewhere)…these INFECTED by HATE & GREED, these POISONED types are being compelled to SPEAK like the COMPASSIONATE these days…they’re on the BACK FOOT…they are in such CHAOS they pretend they care for the WORKER, for the under-privileged, the infirm…day by day, in their desperation.

These LIARS…who gave us WORKCHOICES. Who left MINEFIELDS thruout the economy…& their media mates attempt to trap & ambush Labor by the hour…try to ensure they hit a MINE. And if Labor ministers & senators don’t, are smart & agile enuff w/ foresight to avoid them, some in the Corporate media in their disappointment & FRUSTRATION will PAINT A PICTURE of an explosion…of CARNAGE…a victim, that isn’t…& attempt to SELL it as the real deal.

They are THE MANIPULATORS…the CHARACTER ASSASSINS w/ nothing but keeping power in their gnarled, wicked hands, retaining privilege, promoting greed & lying in a faux field of superiority on their minds.

Lindsay Tanner is a kind, tough, educated man, the first in his family to have the opportunity to go to university, who values education & providing OPPORTUNITIES for anyone who can do positive things for our country & themselves. But he’s also highly aware of greed, trickery…& on the look out for corruption…or regulation that stymies real growth & competition. He believes in constructing real, lasting foundations. Not facades.

    I BELIEVE in him.

    Have patience.

“If you build it, they will come.”

We have a Defence Minister who allowed himself to be called Son by a very trashy member of the U.S.A. government, according to a recent report in the SMH. The same sonny Jim,or Tarzan of the ALP., as auto-electrician and trad..e,the new found heroes for some, knows how to speak plainly simply and harshly, and apparently more masculine as Son!? And do please try to remember, that matters American are still shaping day to day attitudes for these ALP parental clowns.

  9. Alastair Says:

    Billie,

you could check out the websites of the main parties to make an informed judgement:

    http://www.greens.org.au
    http://www.alp.org.au
    http://www.liberal.org.au

  10. Alastair Says:

I should have said to help make an informed judgement. What political parties say and what they do are usually quite different.

I wouldn’t hold out too much hope Ken. Big Kev loves working families the most.

  11. nasking Says:

The negativity on here tells me much about the commentors. The RUSH to JUDGE. I’m not surprised. SLEEPERS everywhere. Tho I do think The Greens can play an important role in bringing LIGHT to this great land…provided they put the effort in…& widen their minds & approach. But Rudd, the economic conservative will take some negotiating with.

I might add, unfortunately I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a FALSE FLAG attack on London & somewhere in the USA in the next few days, perhaps the 4th of July for effect…a July SURPRISE.

They’ll ensure a bunch of vulnerable, brainwashed, unaware lackeys from Muslim background do it for THEM. Give Bush & co. their excuse, justification for EXTENDED WAR. The sick pr*cks they are. Think of the moneyed CHESS PLAYERS behind them. Those who bet both ways. Think WATERLOO. Think dynasties.

…the buildup by certain SUSPICIOUS types is full-bore. Check out all the WAR & NUKE bomb sh*t across the media. And comments by McCain’s advisors.

They’re looking to blame Iran…& Iran obviously has some paid AGENTS at the top who provoke America intentionally & are willing to sell their own people down the drain.

Interesting how some journos are creating MISTRUST & pushing the Iranian PROBLEM just as it looked like Israel & Hamas were going to build BRIDGES. And that certain news readers are now across the corporate media again…just like they were on the eve of 9/11 & the Iraq INVASION.

And how convenient that certain so called FEARLESS blogs are now linking continually to the Murdoch news outlets & other sh*t stirrers, particularly those in the UK…& state things like “Obama can kiss my arse” says Bill Clinton…from unnamed sources supposedly close to the former President.

Yea, probably those who are poisoning this once great King of tribes mind. Perhaps Bill should remember this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpwsKRpKS_M&NR=1

(Lord of the Rings - Helms deep charge…I doubt any horses were hurt in the making of this film…unlike certain other pursuits by Mordor style monsters)

  12. enkew Says:

Lang Mack - Love the boat analogy.

  13. Caney Says:

I will take Rudd and his “working families” rhetoric (which, while grating, is harmless enough per se’) any day over the Rodent and his governing for employers and the wealthy.

  14. Lang Mack Says:

Caney, I agree with that , and Nask, what I’m saying is that I’ll tell the bloody dogs that if you don’t behave, I’ll get rid of you bloody Boarder Collies and get some Kelpies. I have never owned Kelpies nor do I intend to, but the Boarder Collies don’t know that.

  15. nasking Says:

“I’ll get rid of you bloody Boarder Collies and get some Kelpies.”

LM, I Know where yer comin’ from. But I’m in a bad mood tonite. And I need to tell some truisms.

Of late, I’ve hit a few shops & such. Can I tell ya that I’ve rarely come across such a bunch of SOFT, IGNORANT, RUDE, LAZY, ILL-INFORMED, SHALLOW, PETULANT, SPOILT, UNHELPFUL, SELFISH, UNCOMMUNICATIVE, SLOW workers (if you can call them that) as i have in this country lately. F’ckin’ unbelievable!
And most were products of the Howard years…tho some ocker pr*cks, usually MALE, were over the age of 45…probably educated in the Fraser/Howard years.

They couldn’t PROBLEM SOLVE if their life depended on it…the laid back, “who gives a sh*t about the customer & sales” approach made me realise why full employment, insufficient training & education & a lack of SALES-related training doesn’t provide enuff innovation, decent service & productivity. And politeness. And nouse.

We need WISE EXPERTS from elsewhere in the world, or from those Aussies retired out early by King John & his cronies, to put some JUICE in these WITLESS, APATHETIC ANDROIDS.

Harvey Norman was the worst of the worse. What a bunch of lazy dills…all bar the young lass who tried at least…& the older lady in her late 50s who was on top of it & was willing to impart REAL useful info…unlike the dipstick who hung around the AV area pretending to be the font of all SECRETS, who was about as helpful as a rhino feeding on addictive grass, displaying the arrogance of a 1970s conman in a car yard…& instead of ensuring his department was running smoothly & assisting the lass from white goods, he was more concerned w/ puffing out his chest & teaching his fellow male younger twit to demeen customers & promote FOXTEL over any alternative system. It was an outrageous display of IGNORANCE & POMPOSITY & APATHY all played out in front of a young audience…all wearing baseball caps…unaware that there’s no fckin’ need for such caps indoors & outside of a bleedin’ baseball park. Bloody useless things.

And the night only got WORSE. As it too often does here when I venture out.

I’m not sure why Australia doesn’t drop its pants & allow itself to be rooted by American & Asian corporations to the tune of OI OI OI I LUV it!!!!

And let me tell ya…i witnessed the same efficiency from many women workers but no credit from managers…& the same broken bridges between the sexes, as I watched in misery during the early to mid 70s in Nth. America. And I’m a child from BROKEN families over & over again that were the consequence of that sh*t & the type of atmosphere created as has been done by the Howardians & their occasional State mate here over the years.

I WARNED people here this would happen. “kids are happy” my arse!!! I remember having to smile like a robot, act like an angel, pretend happiness when all was falling apart in my family as a kid. It’s a FACADE.

Unless Kevin Rudd & co. create more counsellors, wilderness excursions, respect for kids, promote wide-thinking…& get these fckin’ HATE-filled, serial killer, axe-murdering, heavy/death metal, BAD RAP backed, HOPE CRUSHING films & DVDS & CDS out of the shops & that CRAP, sexualised, overly-consumerist advertising off children’s hours on TV…they will bare witness to the same DECADENCE that hit NY in the 70s/80s & Toronto & Britain later…gun culture, gangs, domestic murders out of control.

The same SICKNESS/PLAGUE is here…I saw it in the DVD shops tonite. And elsewhere.

And remember this. I lived in those countries. OBSERVED the FALL. The Cable TV. Read the PAPERS. Watched the cheap consumer BS INFECT. INFECT. INFECT.

And i’m NO EVANGELIST. I’m more of a ICONOCLAST.

And I’m telling you…this country is on the VERGE of a DISASTER.

Thank goodness for some positive caring teachers, charities, counsellors & politicians & other public servants out there who are trying to CHANGE things…change the course of this TITANIC.

  16. Mr. Gerrit H. Schorel-Hlavka Says:

As my 75-year old wife makes known, why just “working families” when she contributed to what Australia is now? She paid her taxes and she can’t be blamed for past Governments have wasted her taxes.
    .
I do think that Brendan Nelson and his 5-cents of petrol is giving nonsense, as while in Government it was not an issue, and Malcolm Turnbull himself made clear to reduce 5 cents petrol but replace it with 5-cents emission charge would result to the same taxes for the Federal Government and the same cost to motorist.
    .
    Some issues we could deal with are for example;
    .
Royal Commission into John Howard and his fellow cabinet ministers having unconstitutionally authorised an armed invasion into Iraq and if found guilty by a Court they all be stripped of their earthly possessions to compensate Australian taxpayers and them be imprisoned for participation in mass murder, etc.
    .
Australia Post be required to deliver postal article for all Australians of the same postal charge and not that citizens are say charged 50 cents for an envelope to be posted while big business only pays about 35 cents for the same. After all that was what the Framers of the Constitution intended that all Australians pay the same charge.
    .
Former Governor-Generals and former Prime Minister were never employed by the Commonwealth but by the Queen and should all be stripped of any perks as they have no constitutional right to have perks at taxpayers cost.
    .
The Framers of the Constitution embedded the principle in the Constitution that the landowner owes the water that falls on his land, but the States do not own the water as riparian rights could only be judicially decided by the High Court of Australia and they refused to give the Commonwealth any legislative powers over water other then in section 100 in regard of navigation of rivers. Hence selling water is unconstitutional both by the State/Territorian Government and/or the Commonwealth.
    .
No such thing as tow layers of Government exist, as the Federal Government made clear the Commonwealth only had legislative powers specifically provided for in the constitution and the States the residue, and once the Commonwealth legislated as to a certain subject then the States no longer had that legislative power. How then can we have two layers of Government you ask? Because the Commonwealth is legislating in area’s it has no constitutional powers to do so! Stop this rot and we are all better of.
    .
    Etc. etc, see my blog

  17. Lang Mack Says:

Nask, I know this won’t work for you but, how about a bloody big TBone with mushrooms and anchovies, steamed cauliflower and carrots with white sauce, washed down with a good red, while listening to Jesse Winchester. And have a grin. Cheer up, we have to get through tomorrow and etc;.
In fact, that beast I cut up a while back, I think I will take my own advise :).
