I never expected to be enthusiastic about the new government’s foreign policy and they’ve given me no reason to revise my expectations. If anything, they’ve gone even further than I anticipated in following in the flawed footsteps of Howard and Downer (for example, by increasing their commitment to Afghanistan).
I did hope, however, that Rudd would […]

Back on April 3 I made an official complaint to the ABC about a story it had run alleging that Kevin Rudd had offered to help Hillary Clinton with her campaign. Other reports and subsequent events suggest the story was a complete fabrication, the result of editorial incompetence or worse.
The response was as follows:
The ABC […]

Al Qaeda leaders in Iraq aren’t worth much these days:
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Bush administration has slashed its reward for the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq from $5 million to $100,000 because it feels he’s lost effectiveness and is no longer worth such a steep price, officials said Tuesday.
I guess that’s what happens when you […]

Glenn Greenwald has been running a series of posts about what should be a scandal in the USA, but isn’t. It should be a scandal because it reveals how the media’s whole coverage of the Iraq invasion and occupaton - not just the opinion pieces but the so-called news as well - has been heavily […]

Religion in all its many forms - 12 Comments » - Posted on May, 10 at 1:31 pm
As a confirmed atheist, I try not to cause needless offence to people of a religious persuasion. Each to his own is my motto, as long as they don’t try and impose their values and belief systems on others.
The Roman Catholic Church would, however, try the patience of, well, a saint. Recently we’ve had reported […]

The world’s nuclear powers are pissed off and they’ve said so:
The five major nuclear-armed powers said on Friday the Non-Proliferation Treaty was under threat and cited Iran’s uranium enrichment campaign in a rare joint call for action to shore up the NPT.
North Korea’s nuclear test blast in 2006, Iran’s pursuit of potentially bomb-capable enrichment and […]

Neil Diamond has a new album out!!!!!!! Gosh, I wonder if it’s as good as Jonathon Livingstone Seagull?
But you won’t hear any of it here I’m afraid. Instead you get a re-mix of some other boring old farts who once were rockers.
Seriously, why do re-mix djs bother? The original was 10 times better.

Australia in Iraq - 29 Comments » - Posted on May, 8 at 1:21 pm
It’s past time for Kevin Rudd to make a clear statement of the government’s attitude towards the occupation of Iraq.
Rudd has had a saloon passage so far on foreign affairs, dazzling the media with a round the world trip in which his ability to speak Mandarin caused universal acclamation. As usual from our media, celebrity […]

GW Bush - 18 Comments » - Posted on May, 8 at 10:27 am
The President of the Most Powerful Nation the World Has Ever Known has sent (by videotape) a farewell message to our late Prime Minister:
“You’re a digger who is simple, direct and tough. And you have never let this cobber down,” he said.
Is there anybody anywhere in either of our two nations who would not cringe […]
