Making the world safer

Has the Iraq invasion made the world safer, as George W suggests?
Well one thing it certainly seems to have done is to encourage a new arms race around the world. Russia has resumed long-distance bomber flights and occasional buzzing of American warships, presumably to remind the yanks that it’s not a completely toothless nation just yet. Iran of course appears hell-bent on getting a nukular weapon to avoid the fate that befell its neighbour.
And then of course there is China:
Deterrence is one of our strategies. Our goal is to preserve peace and stability on the Taiwan Strait. In the past, we did not pay sufficient attention to studies about deterrence. Now we are very interested in the effects of deterrence. We must be able to prevent, resolve and control crises. Crisis management is our top priority. We can resolve a crisis if we are in a position to deter.
Thanks George … the world was so blessed by your presidency.

Does pouring a few glasses of water on a substantial fire, followed accidently(?)/intentionally(?) by a gallon of kerosene & petrol, followed up by a few jugs of sugary water, mean the fire is not as dangerous as when you began to try and put it out?…and does it mean it will not spread?
I think not.
The largest, most powerful “army for hire” is being commanded to do the impossible: Help Israel, the Gulf States, Christian fanatics & Neo-Con adolescents traumatised by their parents’ bed-time stories to stamp out Islamic extremism…
& in turn secure oil fields…whilst providing media outlets with “hook in”, LIVE action, addictive shots and interviews…whilst remembering to smile (showing their big pearly whites), wave their flag, and hug their team members…as they search houses for deadly insurgents in melting heat, walk over sprawled bodies, avoid bone crushing bombs, drag their injured comrades to safety, grimace…& sweat fear and intensity.
The Arab/Persian/Israeli/Christian conflict is HELLCLONE…& minute by minute we get further dragged into a violent storm that has few answers, is centuries old, incredibly divisive, enormously expensive in human, environmental & financial cost …and has the potential of sucking us all into a manmade black hole.
GW Bush, Dick Cheney & co. should be certified. Dragged from their offices and put in a loony bin.
Their “nincompoop” strategies have led to an undermining of the Iranian Reformists… created further division in Lebanon… strengthened the Iranian, Hezbollah & Hamas militants & consequently increased Israeli/Palestinian tensions…provided energy windfalls to unDemocratic regimes…provided for an unstable World economy, dragged essential moneys & intellect away from solving climate, energy and poverty problems…left the American government BROKEN…further tainted America’s reputation & political capital…& created a terrorist training ground that breeds potential Jihadists like the land West of the Mississippi breeds Prairie Dogs.
Also, brought to you by the “experience” of Democratic Hawks like Hillary Clinton & Joseph Lieberman.
GOD BLESS AMERICA

Come on Ken, it ain’t an arms race. Those countries are just asserting their right to bear arms.

Yeah, Iran and North Korea are just like Texans wanting to have a semi-automatic rifle or two in the bedroom in case the bad guys come crashing through the door some day. I guess they actually have more reason to be scared than the Texans.
I’ve always thought ‘arms race’ was a dumb metaphor. Only one country is trying to be first, everyone else is just trying to stay in the game.

Nah. They are demanding the right to arm bears.

Don’t mention the war. The US Ambassador visited Broome last week but no one asked him about the Iraq war. No doubt he’d be for “peace with honor”.

Sure there are a few unintended consequences, but the at least the poor Kurds are doing just fine. Aren’t they?
BTW… just loooooved the smug, self-righteous ABC news reader on the midday news today. Apparently Pakistan now has it’s first woman to be elected Speaker of their National Assembly. Good for them, eh? Because, after all, we enlightened straaaayns have been real trail-blazers in that arena!

The arms race,is a real description, like poker machines called one-arm bandits. How many people have lost limbs, includings arms at war!?Remember swords and bayonets!?Chen the Chinese military leader seems a honest man, but, and I am almost sure he would understand the but, surely if Taiwan is seeking a truly democratic Chinese form of Democracy,it isnt going to settle for a completely American one,and many of the Independent minded in Taiwan, are simply wanting mainland China to recognise, they are independent minded. The same sort of mindfulness that is essentially known and useful,in a navy circumstance where responsibility and task means being independent enough to work as a team, even when there is a command system. That is, the Taiwanese I claim, will never be a threat to Mainland China because they want Independence, that is taking on their own responsibility for all contentions and activities. They already are aware of some of the anti-Chinese sentiment in the U.S.A. that has a lot to do with racial type rather than nation. It simply is unnecessary to think that both Chinese peoples will indulge in war,if both countries can obviously see, some elements of the U.S.A. cannot see anything but being racially superior. Why is it that mainland China cannot see the advantage in selling naval shipping etc. to the Taiwanese, and accept commonality, rather than sovereignality!?After all is Taiwan under its soil full of gold!?Essentially its a troubled area because of being on the Pacific Rim.And big aircraft carriers could be handy as material carriers as well as escape from catastrophic circumstances caused by nature.I think we are to trusting of the U.S.A. ,but then again, foolhardy Australians have spied on Americans. The Chinese Defense positions as policy and action,is still in development.Chen s honesty is acceptable to me,he knows what a modern Defence system is about, any vagueness in statement about Taiwan,is a holding position,he cannot escape the fact he is a mainlander.

Some of the indicators of success that are being trotted out in the media during the fith anniversary coverage are:
The decline in Al Qaida activity in Iraq,
The dramatic drop in violence
And oil production nearing pre-invasion levels.
So… basically…
The US is trying to take credit for partially removing a terrorist group from Iraq that didn’t exist before the invastion,
Trying to take credit for reducing the violence that occured as a result of the invasion, and is still remains worse than it was during Saddam’s era,
And the oil we didn’t go to war for is now flowly again, even though the instability the war caused has pushed prices up to $110/barrel, oil which hovered in the $20-$25 per barrel range in 2002.

Has the Iraq invasion made the world safer, as George W suggests?
No, but what it has done is shown the world that it isn’t so hard to hoodwink the world’s wealthiest & most powerful ‘democracy’ nation TWICE.
It gets extra points as Bush’s predecessor got impeached for a consensual blowjob.
