I’ll see your bet and double it

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd says a Labor Government would create a bi-partisan ‘war cabinet’ to deal with the national emergency in indigenous communities.
But Mr Rudd told Channel Nine he fears there are not enough police available to enforce the plan as it currently stands, and said a Labor Government would boost Australian Federal Police numbers.
“We will fund the recruitment of an additional 500 Australian Federal Police, that is a 20 per cent increase, we’ll do that over a four- to five-year period at a cost of some $200 million,” he said.
“We believe that’s a practical step forward to dealing with the challenge which our federal police on the beat now face in doing the jobs they’ve been asked to do.”
A bipartisan ‘war cabinet’. Brilliant. Beat that, Howard.
Let’s see, what else can Labor do … buy some more used tanks to send in against the child molesters? Equip the Federal Police with helicopter gunships? Round up every indigenous male over the age of 25 and chemically castrate them? Hey we’ve got a lot of catching up to do you know if we’re gunna fix this problem that’s been building for 200 years over the next 6 months.
Aussie Bob reckons Howard’s gone mad. I reckon he’s right … except he’s not the only one.
Words fail me.

This is true. It happened only this afternoon, Sunday.
A man came over to our house to see his daughter who is temporarily boarding with us.
He told me that his 92 year old mother was still as smart as a whip (although a bit unsure on her pins, she needs a stick to walk with).
She still worries, he told me, about Kevin Rudd and union dominance.
I said, “Yeah, but what about Howard’s ‘National Emergency’? Isn’t it a crock?”.
Our compassionate Liberal Party, and its supporters.

AB, how long do you reckon it will be before such people, honest taxpayers all, start complaining about how much this is going to cost them?

I’m already whinging Lyn, reason being that this is bullshit. If this lying, power hungry grub had given a rats arse about the truly woeful conditions for some Indigenous people in remote communities he had 11 fucking years to do something about it. He chose to ignore the numerous reports in the hope that another Tampa or such would appear to save his sorry arse. So now he is using the Aboriginal situation that he has fostered to get him re-elected.
So yeah, I’m whinging. About the fact that in the eleven long years that this rotten little germ has been in charge of this joint he has allowed the health, education and housing situation of these people to deteriorate to a degree that invited the total breakdown of a society that was barely hanging on. It would have cost so much less to address the problems before, and these people would have been far better served. Now they are going to endure this bloody jack boot driven control freak and his henchmen riding roughshod over every right that they gained 40 years ago, their land rights removed and their kids subject to medically induced abuse, with no apologies.
I don’t believe that we are actually allowing this rotten little creep to use this shocking situation in this manner.
