Curing gay

The other day The Daily Show did a segment/interview with a guy who claims to be able to “cure” homosexuality. A Christian, and a “cured” homosexual himself, he was associated with a number of leading evangelical groups, though they have now abandoned him, apparently in the wake of his Daily Show appearance. The clips below are funny in that excruiciating way these things tend to be but jeez: they’re worth watching just to see what serious denial looks like (the “therapist” is mainly on the second clip, but watch both).

Hilarious. Clearly in denial. If he COULD catch a footy, of course, he’d be as straight as Ian Roberts.
If I may be half serious for a moment, these “ex gay watch” things have their own totalitarian side. Doesn’t this assumption that everyone is either totally a fag forever, or wouldn’t ever touch it with a, ahem, pole, fly in the face of the best emperical evidence?

Its amazing that there are so many hateful bigots still out there - and i dont just mean hick nut jobs from the US - politicians in our own country (ie Steve Bracks) continue to be dead against any form of relationship equality or recognition.
Ultimately this issue is about fairness and equality. If equality is going to make a group of people happy in our society, then surely they should have the right to that Happiness?

Indeed…but the traumatised bigots, inherently ignorant, narrowly educated, easily conned & weak willed have the support of politicians & Churches (rolling in cash from promoting discrimination) who see it as a convenient ‘wedge issue’. It’s only when the Gay community have enough friends, contacts, judges, satisfied customers, CEOs, journalists, lawyers & Polies amongst their ranks…& money/capital to invest in communities & law suits & businesses & advertising & Media & influential Lobby groups that they’ll get equitable Rights across the majority of States (or there abouts)…as is incrementally occuring…but of course, some communities will always ‘hang tough’ & oppose mandates, Federal Laws & public opinion…because some people are just too damn fearful for their own good. And they are led by SHOW ME THE MONEY! SOBs…& Fundamentalist Wack Jobs.
Taliban types not only live in Afghani caves…but walk the halls of the W/House, live in Glass Cathedrals in Sydney, herd their flock in Belfast, count their gold in the Vatican, preach on full bellies to starving miners in the Congo…sell Capitalism to the population whilst framing & imprisoning Opposition leaders in Kuala Lumpar… condone illegal organ transplants in China…hire Australian teachers whilst imprisoning gays in Dubai…pick your enemy, pick your ally…
